Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP), a non-profit organization providing sustainability certification in the graphic communications industry, has announced Flint Group as its newest Silver Patron. Flint Group offers a comprehensive product portfolio of water-based, radiation curable, and solvent-based technologies for the global printing and packaging industry. Sustainability is an integral component of Flint Group’s corporate philosophy, and the company seeks to work with businesses with a similar perspective. Flint Group views SGP as an ally in the effort to promote and implement sustainable measures throughout the industry.

According to the company, Flint Group is committed to formulating state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly products that deliver maximum performance and quality while minimizing potential negative impact to the environment. For example, focus is placed on using materials with reduced environmental impact, minimizing waste in ink systems, and developing sustainable inks. Flint Group’s FlexiStarTM BRC is the first solvent-based biorenewable ink to receive NAPIM certification, and its BioCure F and UV Flexo inks are also made of biorenewable resources. The company’s EkoCure inks set with the aid of UV LED lamps instead of traditional mercury bulbs, lowering energy consumption and eliminating ozone production.

The company has also made significant strides within its own operations, creating a sustainable shipping process by reducing thickness of steel containers, eliminating unnecessary secondary packaging, and using recyclable and multi-use containers. During shipment, many of the company’s sites use re-bottled bulk containers as well as reconditioned steel drums. Shipping materials such as cardboard, pallets, paper, and shrink wrap are often recycled.
